Becoming a person of value is a divine quest which we are all called to. It is not a quest to find something 'out there' but instead it is a journey of uncovering the treasure hidden within. So many people in this world suffer with low self esteem, but that is because they don't understand who they really are. The bible says:
Gen 1:27 God created mankind in His image and likeness
Considering what God is like: All powerful, all knowing, ever present, creator of the universe, Father. What higher value can you be looking for than the fact that you were created in the image and likeness of this amazing God.
Just pick one of God's great creations and see how amazing they are. When you realise that you were made in the image of their creator, you will quickly see how amazing you really are.
Not only that, once you are born again, you are filled with His Holy Spirit, His very presence, wisdom, power and love.
No wonder that the scripture exclaims: Christ in you! The hope of glory.
Wether believers or not, we are all born with intrinsic value. It is because we are made in the image and likeness of God. And when that value is mixed with purpose that is powerful stuff!
When a baby is born into this world, a parent will look at their son or daughter and think about all the wonderful things this new person could become. They don't stand there and think 'here is a future thief'. In the same way, God, who is our heavenly father has great plans for us.
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
When we realise that our heavenly father has these great plans for our lives, we have no reason be insecure about our future. Instead we can confidently say that we are made in the image of God and therefore we cannot fail.
So how does God expect us to fulfil these plans he has?
By using the faculties that he has given us. Faculties like our imagination.
Good or bad, what you imagine is the image of your future
Now stop and think about this following statement for a minute. What would you do if you could not fail? If for the next 3 months you could do anything and be guaranteed to succeed, what would you do?
It begs the question, are we making plans and making them happen now or are we putting things off to another day?
Are you spending all your time watching TV or are you building up yourself and the value you are able to bring to the world?
It is all about priorities. It is about choosing to become the person God has created you to be. It is about choosing to do the things you were called to do.
You can choose to squander the seed of greatness you were born with, or you can choose to cultivate it and grow it into a mighty oak.
The bible says:They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendour. Isa 61:3
What is God's splendour? Let's take a quick look at the dictionary definition:
Pretty good yes?! The Lord wants to display his magnificent features and qualities to the world and he wants to do that in and through you.
It reminds me of a story I once heard.
Once upon a time there was a minister who was doing the rounds, visiting some of the people in his congregation. As he cycled up onto the drive of Farmer Jack's farm, he marvelled at the beauty of the place. The Farm house was a beautiful and well kept. The windows were freshly painted. The gardens were in bloom. The white picket fences sparkling white. Further in the field he saw a tractor going up and down and the plough lines were drawn in perfect symmetry.
As he was thinking about all this, the tractor came near and farmer Jack jumped down from his ride to greet his visitor. His straw hat bobbing on his head and an ear of corn between his teeth.
The pastor said: Well Jack, the Lord has certainly blessed you with his farm.
Farmer Jack said: Yes, that is true, but you should have seen the state of it when He had it all to himself!
The moral of the story? God is not going to take over your life like an alien from the body snatchers. You were born with a seed of greatness and it is up to you to help it grow. If you do, blessings are yours in abundance. So what are you waiting for? Get on board with the program!
