As believers, it is our job to express God to the world. The more time we spend with Him, the more we begin to speak like him and act like him.
The Holy Spirit, teaches us to be more like Jesus. Jesus was counter-cultural and the things he said and did raised more than a few eyebrows. Lets just have a quick look at a few examples from scripture:
Jesus goes to a funeral, but instead of mourning, he raises the child and give it back to the mother; Not a normal response
Taxes are due for the disciples and all the money is gone. He sends Simon to catch one fish and it has a gold coin in it's mouth; Not a normal response
Wine has run out at a wedding. He tells the servants to fill the vats with water and changes water into wine, saving the best for last; Not a normal response
Jesus is on the cross, dying an agonising death. He was punished, even though he was innocent. Yet in his final breath, he says: Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing; Not a normal response
As we are learning more about God, we are growing to be more like Him. In doing so, we will find ourselves becoming more and more counter-cultural; like He is. Don't be afraid of this; it is part of your new identity in Christ. God says that we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. This means that what we put into our minds is very important. To use but an old IT saying: garbage in = garbage out.
Why am I saying this? It is because as soon as you start listening to God, you will become aware of something very sinister. You will see that the world is broadcasting it's propaganda on all frequencies. Hollywood is very good at presenting these ideas in tasty morsels which we like to enjoy, but be aware of what ideas are planted in your mind. As we have discussed before, our heart (subconscious) is like soil in a garden. The soil does not care what type of seed is planted and will bring to fruition whatever lands there.
You are the one in control of what is planted there. You can choose to fill your mind with the word of God or the propaganda of the world. You will reap what is sown.
